The Fourth Hand by John Irving

Bizarre is the first word that pops into my head when I think of this book. The Fourth Hand is a wonderful book and I enjoyed it immensely, but the plot was just plain weird. Here it is in a nutshell:

A reporter looses his hand in an accident of sorts on live television. A woman in Green Bay, Wisconsin writes to an eminent hand surgeon saying that her husband has agreed to leave his left hand to the reporter. Her still alive husband. When the husband does die, the hand is rushed to Boston for the transplant, but there’s a catch. The new widow wants visitation rights with the hand!

Visitation rights! That’s not all, it gets even weirder if you can believe it, but you get the idea.

I liked this book very much.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
